[IC Information]
Character Name: Starfire (Koriand'r)
Series: Teen Titans (animated series)
Gender: Female
Age: About fourteen or fifteen in Earth years
Species: Tamaranian
Sexuality: Straight
Appearance: Starfire is above average height for a female of her apparent age. Her skin is orange, her hair red, and her eyes bright green, including the "whites". If not for the blatantly obvious fact that she's not of this world, she would appear to be quite normal and harmless, an illusion which is perpetuated by the two default expressions she wears: Adorably curious, and upbeat and happy.
Personality: The word that best describes Starfire is "optimistic". After that comes "bouncy", "bubbly", and "super-duper-happy". She tries to always see the best in people and in situations, and rarely gets very upset or mopey. When she does, though, it's generally because somebody close to her is hurt or in trouble; she puts the well-being of her friends and loved ones far above that of herself, and when she's actually angry, she can be downright frightening. She can be described as sweet and caring, but also as naive and gullible; in addition, she's overly polite, using unnaturally stilted speech when speaking English.
Abilities: As a Tamaranian, Starfire has various superpowers that are powered by her emotions. Her ability to fly is powered by joy; the laser beams she can shoot from her eyes and throw from her hands are powered by fury, and her superhuman strength is powered by confidence. She also has the ability to instantly learn any language by kissing a person who is fluent in it. In Manhattan, she will find that she has lost her ability to fly or produce her "starbolts", and her strength is greatly diminished; she's still more powerful than the average human of her stature, perhaps as strong as an adult male weightlifter, but nowhere near as powerful as she is in her own world. She'll have lost her ability to learn languages easily, not that she'll really need it.
Weaknesses: Starfire is a creature of emotion. She can control how she feels enough that she can use her superpowers, but on the occasion that she does lose control of her emotions, it's hard for her to regain control. For example, in an episode where Robin denied that she was his "girlfriend", she became so despondent she lost her ability to fly. Thus, Starfire's greatest weakness is her reliance on her friends and loved ones. She can function without them, but nowhere near at the level she should be at.
Her other great weakness is how trusting she is, sometimes to the level of naivete. She has trouble discerning sarcasm and other forms of subtle humor from seriousness, and can be easily taken in by falsehoods.
Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider
History: Once, Tamaran was a beautiful, lush, tropical planet. But then the Gordanians came and turned Tamaran into a barren wasteland. In an effort to save their son Wildfire, the heir to the throne, the king and queen sent him away from the planet. Meanwhile, the eldest of the royal siblings, Blackfire, had an evil plan to save the world: She negotiated with the Gordanians, and sold the middle sibling, Starfire, as a slave. Because of this, the king and queen became ill with grief, and soon died. As the Gordanians were hauling Starfire through space, though, she escaped and landed on a small blue planet called Earth. With the help of some newfound friends, she defeated the Gordanians, and from there decided to remain on Earth.
Starfire and these friends -- Robin, Raven, Cyborg, and Beast Boy -- teamed up to form a crime-fighting group called the Teen Titans. Together they live in a T-shaped tower and fight evildoers in Jump City, where they are local celebrities and all-around superheroes. Eventually, though, Blackfire came to Earth, and Starfire just didn't have it in her heart to hate her -- she was family after all. They hung out and generally had awesome sisterly bonding, and Blackfire even granted a gift to Starfire in the form of a rare alien gemstone. Well, actually the gemstone was one Blackfire had stolen, and Blackfire wound up being arrested with the help of the Titans and send off to an intergalactic jail, but hey, sisters are sisters!
Blackfire broke out and took over Tamaran as its new empress. In a move to unite Tamaran with Drenthax Four, Blackfire had Starfire engaged to a giant gloopy snot monster. Starfire went along with the engagement in hopes of saving her home planet from all-out war, but it was a trick. Blackfire had allied herself with a single Drenthaxian, trading her sister away once again, but this time it was only for a rare gemstone. Starfire challenged Blackfire to a duel and won the throne from her, but chose to return to Earth and passed the rulership to her k'norfka -- the one who had raised her -- Galfore.
At some point after fighting one of their usual villains in the city, Starfire returned to Titans Tower and fell asleep. The next morning, she woke up in the midst of the rubble of Manhattan.
